Possibly the only trumpet/violin duo in existence, Fast Lane was written for Jan and Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski and premiered in St. Maurice, Switzerland in 2006. It was very challenging writing a duo for two such disparate instruments, without using a keyboard or low instrument to create contrast in texture and register.  The solution (I hope) was in using material and techniques both instruments execute well -- repeated notes and speed.

 

Fast Lane? Almost everyone I know, including myself, lives in it.
